This 250-acre park represents life in all the provinces of Indonesia. The idea of creating this ‘mini Indonesia’ came from Siti Hartinah, also known as Tien Suharto, the first Lady of Indonesia. The project began in 1972 and the official inauguration was held on April 20, 1975 and the TMII continues growing and attracting visitors.

Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands, and Papua, the main islands of Indonesia are represented in their fullest capacity at the Taman Mini. There are ten beautiful gardens in TMII and fourteen museums. There is also a Science and Technology Exhibition Center, Indonesian Children’s Palace, Fresh Water Aquarium, and other interesting means of recreation. Besides the cable car, there is the Aeromovel, Miniature Train, IMAX Theater and other attractions too.

Now, Taman Mini has evolved into being a means for information and education for the next generation while continuing to be a cultural tourism object. Six new Regional Pavilions are have been planned to be built.
